Can CAPTCHA be broken?
(and what can we do about it)

The answer is YES! Given enough effort, absolutely every CAPTCHA algorithm can be broken (as it has been shown by the Ticketmaster, Yahoo and Microsoft CAPTCHA examples). As with all security solutions, risk can only be decreased, but there is no such thing as a single security measure that is 100% safe.

The benefits of using our CAPTCHA solution:

  • Using a CAPTCHA significantly narrows the number of potential attackers on your website. CAPTCHA images ensure that not every beginner hacker can attack your web forms.
  • You can always change the algorithm used if the previous one is broken. Our product provides multiple rendering algorithms – 50 of them in the latest version. It's highly unlikely that a hacker will spend his entire time trying to break new algorithms as you change them. On the other side, CAPTCHA security is our business. Every day we work hard on improving the existing algorithms and inventing new and better ones.
  • Instead of using a single CAPTCHA algorithm to generate random codes, you can drastically increase safety by using a random algorithm for each rendering. Beside the code rendered, an attacker will then also have to recognize which of the many CAPTCHA drawing algorithms he must attack. This makes the attack significantly harder, and often just not worth the effort. Our product comes with code samples showing how to randomize the CAPTCHA rendering algorithm in such way.
  • You can always count on our immediate support in case of persisting attacks!

To make sure you are using CAPTCHA protection in the most effective way, you should also consider other CAPTCHA best practices.
